Over the first year, various capitalizations of ‘seapunk’ have been used (SEApunk, Seapunk, etc.), partly due to the ‘sea’ in seapunk referring to both Southeast Asia (SEA) and the sea.
For simplicity and clarity, SS’s recommended style-guide convention is as follows:
- ‘seapunk’ (lowercase) — when used as a generic adjective to describe a genre / category / field: e.g., seapunk poetry, seapunk films, seapunk authors, seapunk exhibitions, etc.
- ‘Seapunk’ (initial capitalization, proper name) — when referring to specifically-/formally-named things: e.g., the Seapunk community, Seapunk newsletter, Seapunk affiliates, etc.
